Energy Aggregation
In November 2009, Glendale voters originally approved energy aggregation programs for natural gas and electricity services.
These aggregation programs allow residents and small businesses to select alternative suppliers to Duke Energy. The rates secured through these programs are often more competitive than Duke Energy’s “Price to Compare”, which is the default supply rate for natural gas and electricity services. Duke Energy is always responsible for the delivery of your energy, so you will still receive bills from Duke Energy.
Outages and emergency situations should still be reported to Duke Energy at 1 (800) 543-5599.
These programs are ‘opt-out’, meaning that customers have the ability to leave the program and pursue different suppliers for each utility. There are no fees associated with joining or leaving the Village’s aggregation program.
Electricity Supply renewal - summer 2023
The Village has renewed its electricity aggregation with Energy Harbor for 2 years, at a rate of $0.0722 per kilowatt hour, beginning with the August 2023 meter reading date.
This renewal also offers a 100% renewable energy program option. The energy provided at this rate is produced from 100% renewable resources. This is an ‘opt-in’ program and you should refer to the letter you received for more information on how to enroll.
With this upcoming renewal, it is common for other energy suppliers to attempt to get customers to enroll in their services. These suppliers may contact you by phone or door-to-door promising lower rates. Be very careful when considering these services – often the lower rates are a promotional price that expires after only a few months and the supplier may require a contract with high cancellation fees.
