Glendale Fire Department

The Village of Glendale Fire Department is an ISO Class 2 volunteer fire department with approximately 50 firefighters who serve the Village of Glendale. First established in 1890, the Glendale Fire Department has long served the community.  Chief Kevin D. HardwickKHI started in the fire service in January 1976 as an Explorer with the New Burlington Fire Department located in Springfield Township. In February 1978 I then moved to a regular volunteer fire fighter until taking the first paid firefighter position in July 1980. I remained as a paid person holding the rank of Captain until I took the job at the Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky International Airport Fire Department. While at New Burlington I was certified as a fire fighter, EMT, fire instructor, fire investigator, and fire safety inspector. I remained as a volunteer firefighter until 1988.

The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport hired me in 1982 as a fire fighter. I became certified in Kentucky as an EMT, firefighter, Hazmat Tech, Paramedic and Fire Investigator. While at the airport I held the positions of firefighter, fire safety officer, fire inspector and Lieutenant. I had responsibility for environmental issues, fire inspection, plan review, fleet management, specifying and recommending purchases. I joined up as a member of the Boone County Fire Investigation Team and became the coordinator of the team in 1997. I then retired from the department in May 2002.

In 2000 I started volunteering for the Hamilton County Fairgrounds on the fire department. This is a department that is responsible for fire, rescue and emergency services for all events on the fairgrounds. I became the Fire Chief at the fairgrounds and continue to hold that position today. In 2002 I took the position of Regional Manager for Ferrara Fire Apparatus Incorporated covering areas of Ohio Kentucky and Indiana where I am responsible for service, training, support and sales for the area. I stayed with Ferrara until 2014.

In late 2006, I became a member of the Glendale Fire department where I was appointed Captain. Then in 2008 was appointed as Assistant Fire Chief and finally named Fire Chief for the Village in February 2013. I was sworn in to that position in March 2013. I was just appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Association of Fire Chiefs VCOS Section. Additionally, I have received my Ohio Fire Chief designation.

I was born, raised and continue to live in the New Burlington area of Springfield Township. I went through the Mt Healthy School system and attended numerous fire training classes for most of my fire department life. I have over 7000 documented hours of training in the fire service. I completed the Ohio Fire Executive program that is sponsored by the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association. After many years I finished my college degree program with Columbia Southern University.

In 1985 I married my wife Cindy. We still live in the New Burlington section of Springfield Township. We have lived in the same house since we were married. Our kids are all grown and now we enjoy the grandkids and our beloved dogs. We like to travel, especially Hawaii and to Gatlinburg. We also spend time at home taking care of our home and gardens and spending time with friends and family.
