Yellowwood

Cladrastis kentukea
This tree can be considered native in southwestern Ohio, but it is more prevalent in the southeastern United States. The white fragrant blooms appear in a cascading fashion like wisteria and similar to the black locust.  Interestingly, the tree may only blossom every 2-3 years. The compound leaves are dark green in the summer and turn yellow, gold and orange in the fall. The wood is yellow to pale brown and is very hard. They like full sun, grow to 30-50 ft. tall and have no serious disease problems.
