Silver Linden

Tilia tomentosa
This tree is of European origin.  The leaves are bright green on top and are covered underneath with silvery-white hairs. The trees are particularly attractive in the wind displaying these contrasting leaf colors.  The pale, yellow flowers, which bloom in late spring, are quite fragrant and attract bees.  Silver leaf lindens can grow to a height of 50 ft. and a spread of 30 ft. Fortunately, unlike the American Linden, the silver leaf linden is not as susceptible to aphid infestation.
