Copper Beech

Fagus sylvatica
This non-native tree was introduced to the USA in 1847. The most characteristic feature of this tree is its pendulous shape and large "weeping" branches that drape down to the ground.  The branches are so thick that they block the visibility of the trunk. The trees can reach a height of 80 ft. and are often wider than tall. It grows best in moist but well drained soil and can live up to 150-200 years.
