Common Persimmon

Diospyros virginiana
Although this tree is native, we are at the northern edge of its range.  The tree produces a yellow-orange fruit which is used in cooking puddings and jams and is also high in Vitamin C. The tree is slow growing but can reach heights of 40-60 ft. Persimmon trees prefer well-drained soil but are actually fairly tolerant of most soil conditions. In the past, the wood was used in making golf clubs.
