Colorado Blue Spruce

Picea pungnes
Although native to the west, this beautiful conifer with its blue-green needles has been grown locally as an ornamental tree. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. There are many cultivars ranging from shrubs to large trees with drooping branches.  They can reach a mature height of 50-75 ft. You can easily identify these trees and shrubs in the Village by their distinctive color.  Unfortunately, they are also affected by pests and diseases.  The most recent and troublesome disease is Diplodia tip blight that is caused by a fungus.
