Bloodgood Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’

This tree is a native of several East Asian countries including Japan, Korea, Mongolia and China. It prefers sun to partial sun and well-drained soil. Japanese Maples are sensitive to drought so it is wise to have at least 2 inches of mulch extending to the drip line. Most trees obtain a dome shape at maturity but they can range in height from small Bonsai shrubs to 20-30 ft. There are over 1000 cultivars of this species. The numerous varieties of leaf sizes, shapes, and colors from green to purple and red, along with the variety of shapes and growth patterns make them a popular landscape tree.
