I am Debbie Grueninger and I have served the Village of Glendale as a member of Council for the past eight years.
In that time, I have chaired or served on nearly every village committee, including Police, Fire, Laws & Claims, Streets, Utilities, Recreation and Public Buildings. In 1999, as chair of the Fire Committee, I was involved in raising over $115,000 from the community, matched with $100,000 from the village to purchase the "People's Pumper". During the process of updating our 2000 Village Plan, I chaired the Land Use & Historic District Committees. During my tenure as chair of Utilities, we began the process of responding to EPA mandates to upgrade our Waste Water Treatment Plant and hired ATS Engineering to design and build our new plant.
This past year has been particularly challenging with decisions to increase water and sewage user fees as we upgrade those plants, and the temporary deactivation of our fire department. The Fire Department Task Force has diligently worked to provide viable options for council's deliberation. I am committed to providing the best fire protection and EMS service for the residents of the community as quickly as possible.
I take an active interest in all aspects of local government and consider this an important responsibility of the job. I never miss sessions of Council; I attend all committee meetings; and I attend all Glendale Planning and Historic Preservation Commission meetings. I am accessible and responsive to all constituents.
On a personal note, Stan, my husband of 26 years, and I moved to Glendale in 1982 and have lovingly restored a pre-Civil War home built in 1858. I am the proud step-mother of three children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Currently I am a Special Education teacher working with children in grades K-3 in nearby Greenhills. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Cincinnati with degrees in Management and Marketing and received my Masters and Licensure from Xavier University in Special Education.
As an elected official, residents place their faith in me to make wise choices and to exercise fiduciary responsibility in management of village assets. My pledge to all residents is to always have a process that is fair, transparent and participatory. Thank you for letting me serve you.
