THE SURVEY
Now that the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has approved Quiet Zone regulations, the Village of Glendale will continue to investigate the elimination or reduction of train horn noise at the three railroad crossings; Sharon, Albion and Oak Avenues. It is possible that safety measures can be installed to either prevent the sounding of horns or reduce the intensity of the horn soundings at these three different crossings.
Glendale hired a consulting engineer that specialized in these matters; Railroad Controls Limited of Benbrook, Texas. This engineer worked in conjunction with our local engineer, CDS Associates, in analyzing each crossing and provided recommendations; Final Quiet Zones Evaluation
Obviously there is much to do and study concerning this matter. Councilperson Debbie Grueninger, Chairman of the Police Committee and Councilman Ephriam Swafford, Chairman of the Streets Committee, conducted joint Committee meetings to keep the public informed and to make recommendations to the Council and Mayor. During these meetings, much was discussed and a final Council Committee PowerPoint presentation was developed. You may access this presentation by clicking here; PowerPoint Update Presentation Original Presentation
Citizen Quiet Zone Committee Established
Mayor Joe Hubbard, Councilperson Grueninger and Swafford then determined that further study, via a citizen Quiet Zone Committee, was needed. The Mayor appointed Ralph Hoop, Carl Stritzel, Dave Schmid, Becky Love, Dan Raabe, Jack Buescher, John Earls, Jack Murray, Oliver Debikey, Tom Breidenstein and Allen Zobay to this new ad hoc Committee. They established their charter, membership and will post their minutes on this web page when available.
